During this LAB Live we discussed generative design, rapid prototyping, and parametric modeling processes, as well as demoed a few scripts using Grasshopper and Dynamo. By using these processes we can cycle through thousands—or even millions—of design choices, test configurations and learn from each iteration what works and what doesn’t.
The process can enable designers to generate brand new options, beyond what a human alone could create, to arrive at a most effective design. This process places emphasis on front loading key data collected in the predesign and programming stages, while building a parametric framework for evaluation and production. This method allows for a seamless transition between design phases while maintaining a direct link for change and evaluation.
