EvolveLAB is excited to announce that we have brought Mark Irvin to the team as Regional Solutions Director. The social innovator brings 30-plus years of construction, real estate entrepreneurial experience to the team as well as the unique experience as founder of a STEM-focused nonprofit organization. Mark is based out of Kansas City, Missouri.
“If one gets inspired by the opportunities, I say go for it and don’t be dissuaded,” Mark says. Mark claims that Technology opens many doors to individuals, the job-to-career or education-to-career choices are immense, and they both point in the same direction - up!
Mark’s skilled-trades training led him from high school to a successful 33-year career in construction, ultimately enabling him to run his firm, KC MASS Services. KC MASS, a specialized contractor, provided services to repurpose homes and customize them for individuals with disabilities, seniors who are aging in place, and caregivers, utilizing the Universal Design approach. Mark’s interest in accessible home modifications heightened while he was recovering from his “botched” hip replacement surgery procedure. Mark developed curriculum and taught building codes-related classes focused on accessibility to licensed contractors at the Builders Association of Kansas City.
Mark also has a strong background in educational work including a position as a Research Project Specialist for the University of Kansas. His work there included school to work skills and career education for youth while serving in South Africa. Most recently he worked to develop a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program that produces a BIM focused hybrid occupation.
Mark is passionate about advancing the STEM economy and increasing access, equity, and diversity for the current and future STEM workforce for marginalized communities, namely those of color.
The EvolveLAB Team is excited to have Mark join the team, not only for his considerable experience but for his vibrant personality and positive spirit.
